Sharks have been stigmatized by the media, but are actually essential for the health of marine ecosystems. The islands of Darwin and Wolf (Galapagos, Ecuador) have the greatest biomass of sharks in the world. In order to ensure that the local community and especially Galapagos youth understand the importance of sharks, we created the Shark Ambassador program. This program involves scientific lessons, storytelling and fun field trips to ensure awareness about conservation issues!
To achieve the sustainable development of this unique and biodiverse archipelago, the youth from Santa Cruz, Ecuador must be an active part of the future. Selling our clothing from the Galapagos Islands and other souvenirs is an essential way of supporting initiatives such as these, which are training the future local generations and changing negative popular views towards sharks.
